Halloween is Here Ghost Stories

Halloween Party Treats

Halloween brings about a time when we can all let our imaginations go to strange, bizarre, macabre and chilling thoughts.  Let that imagination keep working when you plan your Halloween party treats.  From a bowl of punch with eyeballs looking up at you, to a cake with worms crawling out of it and over it, or to the witch's smoking cauldron of hot caramel to dip apples in - there are many ghoulish treats that can be made for those costume parties whether for children, teens or adults!

Punch with eyeballs - there are basically a couple of different ways to create this creepy, chilling drink.  I think the simplest way is to mix up your punch recipe and then add candy eyeballs to float in the bowl or put the eyeballs in ice cube trays with water and freeze them into ice cubes to add to the punch.  This of course can be taken to many different levels with adding worms, eyeballs, body parts candy, etc., and naturally the color of the punch adds to the mystique of it.  I like using a green color but some might like to use a red blood colored punch.

A cake with worms coming out of it and crawling across it is easy.  Gummy worms are available everywhere these days, especially at this time of year.  Bake your cake, chocolate works best as the chocolate cake will look like a bed of dirt.  Ice the cake if you wish with chocolate icing - place the gummy worms and bugs strategically about the top and sides of the cake.  I use my ice pick and make holes that I stick the worms halfway into so that they look like they are crawling out of the cake!

My witch's cauldron is used for a variety of things at Halloween.  I like to take it and place dry ice in the bottom of it, then place a bowl of candy on top of the dry ice inside the cauldron for trick or treaters.  This can give off the smoke and presents as a very creepy candy bowl.  I also like to take the cauldron and use it for melted chocolate or caramel to dip apple slices or whole apples in.  Everyone likes caramel apples!

Food colorings come in handy also.  you can make a green cake instead - or you can make green or blood red ice cream to serve with the dirt cake!  Just indulge your self for a few moments and let your imagination carry you away to a time when you were a child and experiencing Halloween.  What were things that really got your attention?  What treats did you really like?  Is there a way to use those treats in a new and different haunting way for Halloween?  For instance, popcorn balls for a party can be colored blood red and have candy body parts protruding from them or finger sandwiches could be made with vienna sausages and made to look like cut off fingers in the sandwiches.

Halloween is all about having fun and staying safe!  Having costume parties or attending parties is about the safest way to celebrate and enjoy this time of year now-a-days.  Years ago it was considered safe to trick or treat in neighborhoods and towns, but as times have changed it is no longer recommended as a safe way to celebrate.  Have a party this year, indulge and plan some unearthly scary treats for your guests and watch the fun begin!

Enjoy -
